Earthquake of magnitude 5.6 strikes northern California region, USGS says — alert ‘scared the life out of me’

Earthquake hits northern California: The epicentre of the quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6, was about 140 miles (225 kilometres) northeast of San Francisco, according to the US Geological Survey.
