Let strategic autonomy be the declared frame of every negotiation with larger powers, so that friendship is never quietly traded for dependence. And let scrutiny be met with facts, not indignation. A confident nation does not fear the question of what it gained; it answers in numbers, and is judged the stronger for having done so.
