Second, India should press at multilateral maritime forums and with Gulf partners, including the United Arab Emirates, for enforceable protection of civilian shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Third, the Ministries of External Affairs and Commerce should publish clear benchmarks for the India-UK and India-Canada agreements — employment gains, safeguards for small producers, transparent dispute mechanisms — so that a 2026 deal becomes wages, not a slogan. A great power brings its smallest citizen home.
