The Union government should place the Slovak and French outcomes before Parliament for scrutiny, and report annually on whether the $1.8 billion in Slovakia trade and the five-year France trade-doubling pledge are on track. Honours will look after themselves. What the citizen is owed is a diplomacy whose success can be counted — in contracts signed, capabilities built and pay-cheques earned at home.
