Reform that fractures military spirit would cost more than the colonial vocabulary it sheds.

Keep command succession merit-bound and transparent, as the orderly June 30 transition suggests. An army that looks Indian is good; one that is Indian in capability, and constitutionally neutral in spirit, is the goal worth the cloth.
